Do you know how to properly clean your face after wearing your make-up?

It takes only moments at the end of your day to purify your complexion and leave it ready to absorb nourishment and hydration from your night skin care products.

Read on to discover the best way to wash away make-up with our natural and organic make-up removers. Always kind to your skin and cruelty-free, we are a proud British brand and make nearly all of our products in the UK.

Our gentle products do not strip away the skin’s natural defences but are instead full of goodness and suitable for all skin types – even very sensitive skin.

Why is it important to wash make-up from your face?

The key to healthy skin is a balanced microbiome and properly removing make-up can help to support the surface of your skin.

Cleansing of make-up is important because pores that become clogged by particles of make-up cannot perform their essential functions effectively. Clogged pores can lead to:

  • Spots and blemishes
  • Reduced effectiveness of other skin care products
  • Dry, dull appearance

The good news is that it’s really easy to remove make-up properly. Read on to find out about the products that best suit your complexion and make-up choices.

What are the different types of make-up cleanser?

The main types of make-up cleanser are:

  1. Cream cleanser – best for cleansing light make-up for normal-dry or sensitive skin
  2. Micellar face wash – best for cleansing light make-up for normal-oily skin
  3. Cleansing balms – best for mature skin or cleansing full make-up

Cream cleanser

Suitable for all skin types, cream cleansers have a hydrating water base, which in the case of Green People’s natural and organic cream cleansers is reconstituted organic Aloe Vera.

Ideal for removing light make-up and impurities, Green People’s cream cleansers are the best choice for those prone to dry and sensitive skin and use plant-based natural actives that nourish, balance and soften the skin as they cleanse.

Micellar face wash

Some make-up removing micellar face washes may use harsh ingredients such as the known skin irritant SLS and drying ethanol/ethyl alcohol.

Try to avoid these ingredients and choose a gentle, natural micellar face wash instead.

Cleansing balm

Cleansing balms are typically oil based and Green People’s Age Defy+ Ultimate Wonder Balm is a great example of an oil-based, organic cleansing balm that pampers and purifies.

This luxury cleansing balm melts away oil-based make-up in moments and restores softness with replenishing Rosehip and Perilla oils. Its deeply nourishing formula makes this an excellent match for mature skin but it can be used for make-up removal by all ages.

How to properly clean the face after make-up

The best way to remove make-up from your face is with our 3-step cleansing routine. Eye make-up can also be removed using this routine but, if you have sensitive eyes, you may prefer to use a very gentle cream cleanser, such as Scent Free Cleanser.

STEP 1: REMOVE

Melt away make-up with Age Defy+ Ultimate Wonder Balm or One Balm. These are oil-based cleansing balms and are ideal for removing oil-based make-up, such as concealer, foundation and tinted moisturiser.

Warm the balm in your hands, then pamper your skin by gently massaging the silk-textured balm over your face, eyes and neck.

STEP 2: RINSE

Remove the balm with a warm cloth or gently splash the skin with luke-warm water.

STEP 3: RELEASE

Deep clean the pores by repeating your cleanse with a refreshing foam cleanser or cream cleanser. Lastly, rinse the skin thoroughly with warm water.

Will face wash remove make-up?

Washing your face with water and a flannel may remove some make-up but ordinary foaming face washes may not be able to break down oil-based make-up.

If you love the refreshing feel of a foaming face wash, we recommend double cleansing – first with our cleansing balm, and then with our Foaming Face Wash.

Complete your routine

Now your make-up is properly removed from your skin, your complexion is ready for some night-time nourishment.

We have hand-picked favourite night skin care products, each imbued with the goodness of natural and organic botanicals to replenish, balance and brighten your complexion whilst you rest.
