You’ve booked your dream African safari holiday, now get your skin routine travel ready. Whether you’re staying in a tent or a luxury lodge, these safari sunscreen and skin care essentials should be top of your packing list.

Best sunscreen for African safari

To give you more chance to see the big 5, safaris tend to take place either early in the morning or at dusk, but an early start doesn’t mean that you can skimp on sun cream.

During the rest of the day you may be also exposed to the hot sun whilst on guided treks on foot in the game reserve, having a bush picnic or spending some down-time in your private hot-tub.

Africa’s latitude means that it receives particular high levels of UV sunlight and, as shade can be limited out in the game reserves, it is imperative that you pack a good sun hat and plenty of high factor SPF30 sunscreen for your safari holiday.

For a worry-free adventure, pack Green People’s Scent Free SPF30 Sun Cream (200ml). A great choice for maintaining effective sun protection whilst on safari, this natural sun cream is crammed full of skin-soothing Shea Butter and Aloe Vera and is loved by those prone to prickly heat.

Suitable for all skin types, its ideal for keeping your skin comfortable and protected during dusty, humid safari day trips.

Green People’s Scent Free SPF30 Sun Cream comes in a large 200ml tube and is a great choice for maintaining effective sun protection whilst on safari.

Water repellent and formulated to protect against prickly heat, it uses over 60% Aloe Vera to keep skin soft, calm, and protected whilst travelling on dusty dirt tracks in hot, humid conditions.

Best mosquito repellent for an african safari

Africa is known to have Malaria-carrying mosquitoes so you will definitely need to take a mosquito repellent on your safari.

Loved by all skin types but hated by mosquitoes, our 2-in-1 SPF15 Sun Cream with Natural Insect Repellent is perfect for use during morning and evening safaris.

It is a great way to protect against sunburn and insect bites when you head out for your evening meal.

A DEET-free sunscreen with insect repellent that’s gentle on sensitive skin, its active ingredient is Citrepel®75. Derived from Java Citronella this has been shown to repel mosquitoes for up to 4 hours and that’s with just one application.

Best after sun for safari

Mosquitoes are particularly active late night so protect after sundown by applying our 3-in-1 Moisturising After Sun with Natural Insect Repellent.

The natural way to cool and refresh your skin after a long day on dusty dirt tracks, Citrepel®75 deters biting insects while a Peppermint fresh aroma works with a cooling Aloe Vera core to gently replenish skin-soft comfort.

Charlotte Vøhtz founded Green People in 1997 and explains how a holiday to Africa inspired this safari moisturiser with insect repellent:

I visited Ghana with my daughter on a trip to meet our Shea Butter suppliers and whilst there, I saw young children waving branches of Lemon Eucalyptus to deter mosquitoes.

“When I returned home, I researched other plants that are naturally rich in insect repellent molecules including PMD and was inspired to create my own DEET-free after sun.”

Best safari shampoo

Safari camps are usually in remote locations so this no time to forget your toiletries! To travel light, use multi-purpose toiletries such as a shampoo bar.

Our plastic-free, natural shampoo bars are the perfect hair care product for a safari holiday. Soap-free, pH balanced and naturally conditioning, they create a foamy lather that lifts away the dust of the day to leave hair soft, fresh and clean.

Waterless and travel-friendly, each solid bar lasts for on average 60 washes and comes presented with a reusable box where you can store your bar in between uses to keep it safe and clean.

You can also use these bars to cleanse your body – perfect for saving space and weight in your suitcase. Choose your safari shampoo below:

Best foot cream for a safari holiday

Sturdy safari boots are crucial for a comfortable safari experience and help to protect your feet from unexpected wildlife encounters.

Hot, humid safari conditions can lead to sweaty feet so, pack Prebiotic Deodorising Foot Cream.

Formulated with an effective 3-way deodorising action this favoured holiday foot cream uses an invigorating blend of cooling Peppermint and Eucalyptus essential oils to keep your feet feeling fresh and cool as you explore.
